YORK’S first citizens had a lecture in unhealthy living before tasting the healthy alternative when they popped into Millthorpe School.
Lord Mayor Dave Taylor and Lady Mayoress Susan Ridley learnt about the bad side of eating crisps and chocolate when they attended a healthy eating lesson with Year 7 in the York secondary school.
Then they and the children prepared healthier snacks such as hummus and guacamole.
Cllr Taylor said: “It was lovely to see young people take an interest in what they eat.
“The recipes were quick and healthy. I’m going to try one again this weekend.”
Year 7 pupil Connor Gough said: “It was a really fun lesson. We made healthy snacks and worked as a team to achieve some amazing results.”
Millthorpe is one of three schools that make up the Southbank multi-academy trust, along with Scarcroft and Knavesmire.
