YORK Minster’s bells will ring again tomorrow when a team of volunteer ringers from elsewhere takes to the belltower.

The cathedral is currently recruiting a replacement team of bellringers after controversially axing its old team of volunteer ringers last autumn over safeguarding concerns.

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, will preach at the Solemn Eucharist Service for Easter Day in the Nave, which starts at 10am.

Meanwhile, an outdoor baptism service which has been held in recent years outside the Minster on Easter Saturday will not be happening as usual today.

A spokeswoman for the Archbishop said that this year, baptisms would take place at the Easter Vigil Service inside the cathedral.

She said One Voice York, who had previously organised the outdoor Easter baptisms, were this year organising an open-air event outside York Minster on Saturday June 3 as part of Thy Kingdom Come - a national call to prayer.
