A YOUNG girl was taken to hospital after being injured by a bus in York.

The girl was a pedestrian in Bramham Road, Chapelfields in York, when she was hurt.

A spokeswoman for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service said they were called to the scene at about 6.45pm on Thursday to reports of a pedestrian who had been injured by a bus.

An emergency care practitioner and an ambulance were sent to the scene.

The spokeswoman could not confirm the patient’s age, but said a young girl had been taken to York Hospital with possible injuries to her leg and feet. Her injuries were not believed to be serious.

Marc Bichtemann, managing director at First York, said a child had slipped off a kerb as the bus was approaching.

He said: "An ambulance and the police attended the scene and the child was taken to hospital, but we’ve now been advised that her injuries are not as serious as initially thought.

"This was a very unfortunate accident and we’re relieved that the young girl and our driver are safe and no other customers were injured. We’re now supporting the police in their investigation and we’re in touch with the family. We’d also like to thank local residents for supporting the driver and the family at the scene."
