IT’S not the quietest or safest place to set up home, with cars and buses thundering past on either side.

But this bird - understood to be a greylag goose - has chosen a spot right in the middle of a York dual carriageway to build her nest and lay her eggs.

The bird’s nest is situated in a narrow strip of vegetation in the central reservation on York’s inner ring road at Castle Mills Bridge, near the River Foss.

The mum seems quite oblivious to the traffic as she waits for her brood to hatch. Let’s hope she can lead them to safety when the time comes to leave the nest.

Meanwhile, a duck and her family of ducklings have become a familiar sight wandering round on the lawns around the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall in nearby Piccadilly.
