A CONSERVATION organisation in York has been awarded £1,000 from a North Yorkshire homebuilder.

Hagge Woods Trust was given the money to help keep the Three Hagges Wood Meadow thriving in Escrick.

The money was granted by Persimmon Homes Yorkshire to help sustain the mixture of native grasses, flowers and shrubs.

Caroline Redeker, from the Hagge Woods Trust, said: “We’re thrilled with the contribution given to us by Persimmon Homes Yorkshire.

“We’re committed to fighting against the serious decline in the UK’s biodiversity as well as providing local communities with the opportunity to experience our rural heritage.

“We plan to hold our annual ‘Discovery Day’ in the summer as part of National Meadows Day, where we invite the public to come and explore the wood-meadow and learn about native wildlife, both plant and animal.”

Kevin Thurbron, from Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, said: “The Three Hagges Wood Meadow is a unique project, creating an area that is home to a diverse range of wildlife native to Yorkshire.

“We’re confident our donation will help towards raising the profile of the meadow so that we can ensure the woods will be enjoyed for generations to come.”
