A YORK hospice is gearing up for its annual plant sale.

Plants have been donated to St Leonard’s Hospice by garden centres and the celebrated York flower arranger George Smith.

Mr Smith received an MBE for services to flower arranging in 2004, and his famous York garden at Manor House, Heslington, is renowned for its collection of roses, irises, poppies and variety of plants including hosta, ferns and decorative grasses.

The donated plants will be available to buy at the Plant Sale on Sunday, May 21, in the Hospice grounds on Tadcaster Road from 11am to 2pm.

Sarah Atkinson, fundraiser at the Hospice, said: “This is the ideal opportunity to sort out your garden for spring, and every plant sold goes towards providing care at the Hospice. We look forward to seeing lots of people at the sale next month.”
