TWO York schools have got government cash to help with much-needed building repairs.
The Department for Education has confirmed both Millthorpe School and Archbishop Holgate’s CE Academy have won bids for maintenance and repair grants.
Millthorpe is getting £1.9 million to pay for roof repairs and replacement windows and glazing; while Archbishop Holgate School is getting £250,000 for replacement glazing in the maths and technology building.
Both schools say they plan to carry out the majority of the work during the school summer holidays. Millthorpe’s business manager Alex Collins said the funding would make a significant difference in making classrooms warm and dry for students to learn, and would save £20,000 - £30,000 a year in maintenance costs as well as lowering heating bills.
