A POPULAR attraction in East Yorkshire will be awash with colour when it holds its fifth annual Tulip Festival.

Burnby Hall Gardens, in Pocklington, is busy preparing for the two-week festival, starting on April 29, which attracts many thousands of visitors to the gardens in the spring.

In excess of 14,000 tulips, with more than 30 varieties, will be on display.

These can be seen displayed in tubs throughout the gardens and in the numerous flower beds throughout the site.

The festival is being run in conjunction with Bloms Bulbs, and will finish on May 13.

The attraction is a seven times consecutive winner of the prestigious Yorkshire in Bloom Gold Award.

Bloms Bulbs achieved Gold for its own tulip display at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2013.

The gardens is best known for its national collection of more than 100 varieties of Hardy Water Lily, which bloom on the two ornamental lakes in the summer.

Described as “a jewel in Yorkshire’s crown”, the gardens open from 10am to 5.30pm daily.
