IN response to the piece on Julian Sturdy’s meeting with the vice-cancellor of the University of York (The Press, March 17), we’d like to submit this letter to congratulate Julian Sturdy on his recent actions.

We are pleased to see that Julian Sturdy has recently begun asking numerous pertinent questions about the impact of Brexit on universities, perhaps belatedly recognising that the University of York is a major employer in his constituency.

Will he publicly acknowledge the lack of credible response from the Government to his questions, and reflect on whether he should have asked these questions somewhat earlier?

We hope that he will continue to ask pertinent questions, about other Brexit related issues that affect his constituents, such as the impact on tourism in York, the service industry, NHS staffing and the plight of EU nationals.

Perhaps he might agree to hold a public meeting so that he can learn what other concerns his constituents have.

His recent meeting with the vice-chancellor of the University of York was clearly thought provoking.
