HUNDREDS of youngsters were in fine voice for the annual York Schools Choral Festival.

Now in its sixth year, the event at the University of York was held over two days to involve more children, thanks to funding from York Music Hub. Primary and secondary school pupils came together to perform their choice of songs, with a mass rendition of Caravan of Love by the House Martins.

Molly Newton, music leader for the Pathfinder Teaching School Alliance, who runs the event with Buffy Breakwell, said: “The atmosphere is full of energy. This year, for the first time, we are running it over two days to involve as many schools as possible. This is our sixth year and we have always been massively over-subscribed.”

Schools involved included Hempland, Poppleton Road, Heworth CE, Clifton Green, St Aelred’s, Lord Deramore’s, St Oswald’s, Archbishop Holgates, Tadcaster Grammar and the Sing and Sign Choir.
