MEMBERS of Malton and Norton Rotary Club have donated £2,000 to Ryedale Young Carers.
Ryedale Young Carers are a group of people aged 11-18 who have responsibility for caring for a relative, parent, brother sister, at home in addition to their day to day role of being in school and having a personal life.
The rotary club members heard a talk by a group of these young carers from the Ryedale area in which they explained about the pulls on them from different directions – school, caring, growing up. The club members were moved by the young carer’s dedication to those they care for, and the problems they face in everyday life.
The group, led by Claire Robinson of Ryedale and Scarborough Carers Resource spent an evening at the Talbot Hotel, Malton speaking to the Rotary Club members. At the end of the evening Rotarian Teresa Tasker presented them with a cheque for £2000 on behalf of the Rotary Club to help with future young carers activities which allow them to have time for themselves. The young carers promised to cook a barbecue for Rotary members on Yorkshire Day.
