A TECHNOLOGY company in York which is sponsoring the York Community Pride Awards says it is proud to support the celebration of the city’s unsung heroes.

Saville Audio Visual has been a sponsor of the Community Pride Awards for over a decade.

The Nether Poppleton-based business is sponsoring the Child of the Year category again this year, which recognises young people aged 12 or under who have overcome an adversity or faced up with courage to life’s hardships and challenges.

Describing the long history in supporting the awards, Andy Dyson, sales and marketing director at Saville Audio Visual, said: “With company roots that date back to 1876 we have always been passionate about supporting the city and the fabulous people who make it the wonderful place it is.

“We are proud once again to be supporting this fantastic celebration of the amazing resilience and achievements of the people who make up the city’s tremendous community.

“The Community Pride Awards and in particular the Child of the Year category, is a truly deserving acknowledgement to the amazing bravery and courage demonstrated by the children of York in battling the great challenges they face in their every day lives.”

“What marks the event as so special is that these are life-changing journeys undertaken by ordinary people that have inspired others to recognise their achievements.”

Last year, four remarkable children were the joint winners of the Child of the Year award.

Brave Blake Knaggs, who is living with the incurable Mucolipidosis II ML2 (MPS), was among the winners, as was Jazlyn Smith, who competes in triathlons to raise money for York Against Cancer.

Another winner was Skylar Nevens for helping her parents look after foster children. The fourth youngster to receive an award was Lilia Warman, who has a rare form of epilepsy.

The Awards are run by The Press in partnership with City of York Council and the primary sponsor is York-based healthcare organisation Benenden.

All nominees must live in, or contribute to life in, the City of York Council area.
