WITH both Wigginton Grasshoppers and Huntington Rovers out of action, the interest at the top of the York Minster Engineering League switched to Dringhouses, who faced no easy task in hosting high-flying Malton & Norton.

It proved to be as difficult as expected, with the away side commanding the first half and leading through Liam Preston.

Early in the second period, Houses received the break they needed and Sam Lake levelled from the penalty spot.

Twenty minutes later, Dringhouses were in front, with a second Lake penalty giving them the lead.

Cameron Mulhearn rounded off a 3-1 win near the end and gave Dringhouses the points that they needed to return to second place in the table.

With Brooklyn already relegated, the second spot leading to Division One is still one that many teams are battling to avoid.

Riccall United are one such team and they again fell short of securing a point by a single goal after battling hard at F1 Racing.

The home side took the lead through Alex Martin, following good work from Chris Dempsey.

Riccall equalised before half-time, only to see Dempsey restore F1's lead.

The striker then added his second to make it 3-1 before Riccall replied for a second time, leaving F1 to suffer a nervy last five minutes before collecting the points.

The only good news for Riccall was that rivals Copmanthorpe suffered a 6-1 defeat at Church Fenton White Horse. The hosts were 4-0 up at the break and moved further in front before Jacob Green bagged a consolation for Cop. Both Tadcaster Magnets and York RI, who could find themselves dragged into the relegation dogfight, were not involved in league action this week.

Jonny Andrew put Dunnington ahead against Sporting Knavesmire, only for Danny Owers to level.

Samson Wildwood then made it 2-1 to the Common Road side before George Wilson ensured that both sides claimed a share of the spoils late in the game.

Old Malton St Mary's got the better of their derby against Brooklyn, running out 2-0 winners with goals by Steve Baxter and Danny Fogg to go back up to fourth.

The top four in division one didn't play, so the focus was on the bottom of the table in the second tier.

Things fell right for Cliffe, who once again had the services of Pontefract Collieries' Chris Jackson, the striker hitting a perfect hat-trick in their 4-1 win over Kirkbymoorside, and hitting his 100th goal for Cliffe in the process. Kieran Dinsdale bagged Cliffe's fourth, with the visitors grabbing a consolation late on.

The win pulls Cliffe three points clear of York St John, who lost 8-2 at Harrison Signs.

Warren Lowe (2), Glyn Welsby (2), James Dunwoody, Tom Shaw, Rich Hunter and an own goal made up Signs' tally.

Stu Jenkins and Simon Wilson were on target for Rawcliffe but they suffered a 3-2 reversal at home to Tockwith.

Mario Campagna (2) and Rob Thackray notched the all-important Tockwith goals.
