MOTHERS from York welcomed an MP into a specially-held coffee morning in the city this weekend.

Rachael Maskell, MP for York Central, hosted the Mother’s Day Coffee Morning on Saturday at the Priory Street Centre.

Ms Maskell held the event not only to mark Mother’s Day, but also to talk to families about how they felt York could become a more family-friendly city.

Ms Maskell said: “There are some shops, cafes and attractions which cater for children, but it can be hard planning a day out in the city if you have children, including access to public toilets, having a safe place for children to play, and to make a trip into the city interesting for children”.

Also up for discussion were workplace rights, maternity and paternity rights, childcare, support for parents, housing for families and benefits.
