BICYCLE riders, please use your bells.

Whenever you are on a track with pedestrians (a footpath or shared track), please let pedestrians know that you are about to pass them.

Not when you are a couple of metres behind (this may startle them) but at a distance of at least five metres.

You think that you are in control and can avoid any hazard, but pedestrians can be unpredictable, sometimes unsteady, and may stop without warning to look at something, greet a friend or listen to a bird.

Using a bicycle bell used to be a courtesy.
