TWO beers created by York Brewery have won awards at national and international competitions.

York Brewery announced this week that York Blonde won a silver medal at the SIBA National Beer Competition, while Otherside scooped a silver earlier in the month at the International Brewing Awards.

Blonde has previously won gold and bronze awards at regional level, while the Otherside IPA has previously been awarded a Gold SIBA at regional level.

Nick Webster, head brewer at York Brewery, said: “I love seeing people enjoy drinking our beer, and that’s our prime focus when dreaming up new recipes. With Blonde, we tried to focus on bringing through the subtler fruit aspects of the Citra hop which are often lost in a massive citrus punch. Otherside was a bit more of a gamble, we’d been working with New Zealand grown hops for a while and wanted to see how they fared in an IPA style beer. To be awarded such high-level praise for both these beers feels great and the team are bouncing.”

Neil Arden, brand manager, said: “We’re chuffed to bits, both awards are massive achievements.

“The International Brewing Awards are informally referred to within the industry, as ‘the Oscars of the brewing world’, and with just shy of 1,000 beers, representing 187 breweries and around 50 countries, entered for judging by an expert panel you can easily see why.”

Managing director Jonathan Barker said: “The team aim high. It’s wonderful and I’m very proud that our beers win so many awards and medals. Blonde is a personal favourite of mine and as far as Otherside goes, for now at least, it’s mission accomplished.”

The team have already been given their SIBA certificate, but will be presented with the International Brewing Award next month.
