DEMOLITION work at a former York school is progressing, with piles of rubble growing where classrooms once stood. Local residents as well as former students have been taking a keen interest in the continuing work.

As reported, City of York Council has confirmed that care company Ashley House and care firm HC-One were the winning bidders to build and run a new 70-bed care home on the Burnholme site in Tang Hall.

It was also agreed by councillors at a recent meeting of the city council’s executive committee that the libraries organisation York Explore would run the community space on the same site including meeting rooms, a sports hall, childcare nursery and reading cafe.

Tang Hall library is to move out of its current home on Fifth Avenue to go into the Burnholme site, and that building will either be developed for housing or sold off and the funds reinvested in the Burnholme project.
