YOUNG gymnasts will represent York in regional finals after sweeping the board in a city-wide competition.

Fishergate Primary School’s team won all three age categories against eight schools, putting them forward to compete against children from across North Yorkshire in next month’s tougher contest at Queen Margaret’s School.

The competition involved floor displays and vaulting, with children demonstrating their control, accuracy and fine-tuned coordination in various choreographed and carefully rehearsed routines.

The team was only formed four years ago by staff members Jo Heyes, Erika Deverall and Peter Kelly.

The staff at the school feel that this most recent success is down to the enthusiasm and passion of the pupils involved.

Regional finals take place on Wednesday, April 5.
