PEOPLE of all ages and from all walks of life are joining forces today to raise funds in aid of Comic Relief.

Colleges, schools and playgroups across York, North and East Yorkshire are throwing themselves into all manner of fundraising efforts along with shop workers and office staff.

Among those lending their support to the charitable cause is the full cast of Cyrano de Bergerac, from the Northern Broadsides company, which is bringing their production to York Theatre Royal in April.

Who better to wear a red nose than poet Cyrano de Bergerac, a man famous for his poetry, his swordsmanship - and his enormous nose?

Set in the golden age of musketeers, this new adaptation of Edmond Rostand's tale of unrequited love is by award-winning writer Deborah McAndrew, who played Angie Freeman in TV's Coronation Street.

Cyrano can be seen at York Theatre Royal from 11-15 April. Tickets are available from the box office on 01904 623568 and online at yorktheatreroyal.co.uk

To mark Comic Relief, Christian Edwards, who plays Cyrano, and the rest of the cast got nosey and joined in the fun during a break from the tour.

The team at the Acomb branch of Leeds Building Society are accepting donations today for the Red Nose Day account.

They also will be hosting a cake sale and a ‘guess the weight of the cake’ competition.

Will Smith, branch manager, said the event was "a great way to bring everyone in the branch together whilst making a real difference at the same time".
