NEW Earswick All Blacks ARLC took the bragging rights in their 36-24 Yorkshire Men's League's Forty20 Cup victory over local rivals Heworth.

All Blacks followed up their wins over York Acorn 'A' and Featherstone Lions 'A' with another excellent display in the competition.

However, Heworth surged out of the blocks with two tries in the opening 10 minutes to stun their hosts, with their kicker converting one of those to give them an early 10-0 advantage.

There was more bad news for the home side on 15 minutes when their four-try star against Featherstone, Tommy Hields, was forced to leave the field with a shoulder injury.

New Earswick showed their resilience by responding five minutes later, as powerful prop Dan Atkinson barged his way over from close range.

Tom Holmes missed the conversion, but the hosts were level at the break thanks to a try from Dean Smith.

A cross-field kick from half back Liam Gargan was palmed down by Tom Barron for winger Smith to jink his way through the defence. Holmes' kick was successful on this occasion.

All Blacks were ahead within a minute of the restart, with Adam Caddie making a break down the right flank to score – Holmes' kick making it 16-10.

Caddie made it a brace when superb play down the right wing led to a cut out pass from open age debutant Connor Calam, giving Caddie the chance to dive over for an unconverted try

The visitors hit back with a converted score as New Earswick's penalty county increased.

But the hosts' defence held firm under more severe pressure before notching a try of their own – Jamie Norris powering his way over before Holmes missed the kick to leave the match finely poised at 24-16.

Again, Heworth roared back with a try to reduce the lead to four points, but former Heworth centre Tom Barron finished off a good move in the left corner to help stretch that advantage.

Another unconverted Heworth score kept the game alive, before Sean Malarkey ensured the win for the hosts – going over down the left flank for his first try of the season and capping his man of the match performance.

Holmes was successful with the kick to make the final score 36-24.
