CITY of York Council bosses have formally agreed to sell the empty Oakhaven care home site in Acomb to care company Ashley House, for redevelopment into a complex of 56 extra care apartments for older people.
That deal was approved by councillors on Thursday at a meeting of the city council’s executive committee. At the same time Ashley House and care firm HC-One were confirmed as winning bidders to build and run a new 70 bed care home on the Burnholme site in Tang Hall, while it was agreed libraries organisation York Explore would run the community space on the same site including meeting rooms, a sports hall, childcare nursery and reading cafe.
Tang Hall library is to move out of its current home on Fifth Avenue to go into the Burnholme site, and that building will either be developed for housing or sold off and the funds reinvested in the Burnholme project, it was confirmed.
