THIS weekend will mark the eighth anniversary of the disappearance of Claudia Lawrence.

Claudia was last seen on the evening of March 18, 2009, and her disappearance has been treated as a murder investigation by North Yorkshire Police since then.

A lengthy review into the original investigation, at a combined cost to the force of more than a million pounds, saw several people arrested last year, but all have now been released from bail without charge, and the case has moved into a reactive phase, but not closed.

York Press:

This Saturday would be the anniversary of her disappearance, but her father Peter Lawrence said he will not officially mark the anniversary until next week, when amendments to the guardianship law made in her name go before the House of Commons for the third time. Martin Dales, Peter Lawrence’s friend and spokesman, said: “All anniversaries of Claudia’s disappearance are painful times for her family and friends and this year is no exception. Claudia’s father Peter Lawrence will be spending this weekend quietly and reflectively. Peter is intending to wait until Friday, March 24, to mark the eighth anniversary, when the Report Stage and 3rd Reading of Guardianship (Missing Persons) Bill – dubbed Claudia’s Law - will debated in the House of Commons.”
