MORE than 1,000 trees have now been planted across York by youngsters of various faiths, following the latest planting session at Leeman Park at the weekend.

The plantings have been organised since the 2015 floods by York Interfaith Group in coordination with City of York Council and The Conservation Volunteers (TCV).

Environmentally and socially conscious young people have been planting a good mix of wetland and woodland trees to help take up water in flood zones, while also creating a beautiful addition to the local ecosystem.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, York Bahais, York Mosque, York Sikhs, Ahmiddiya Muslims, York Liberal Jewish Community and several further Christian churches have all been involved.

Organisers thanked St Barnabas School, Friends of Leeman Park, Friends of West Bank Park and Woodland Trust for their support.
