A SERVICE will be held to mark the refurbishment of an historic monument in York.
The Rigg Monument is dedicated to six children from the same family who died in a boating accident on the River Ouse in 1830.
Public donations paid for the monument, in the graveyard of St Lawrence’s Church, and was eventually seen as a visitor attraction.
Two years ago, after the monument became overgrown and dilapidated, York Civic Trust set out to restore it, and a service of dedication will be held by the Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu, with the Lord Mayor of York and Civic Party, on Saturday, at 3pm.
