EMERGENCY volunteers in North Yorkshire have been helped by a donation from Bettys and Taylors.

The Major Incident Response Team (MIRT) is made up of volunteers who are ready to spring into action and work alongside emergency services to support victims, when crisis hits.

The team, formed by North Yorkshire County Council, have been given £878, funding grab bags that will help them respond to calls faster.

The company’s Sarah Wells said: “This award was put forward following the floods in York last winter and it highlighted the important work that community volunteers do in times of crisis.”

North Yorkshire’s Cllr Carl Les said the bags will help volunteers work more effectively, and will make them easily recognisable during a crisis. The bags contain essentials like a first aid kit, foil blankets and paperwork to set up rest centres, and have room for extra things like a phone charger and snacks, in case volunteers are out for a long time.”
