FOUR people were arrested, and a car was returned to its rightful owner within hours of its theft in York.

Officers including PC Andrew Pearson executed a number of searches and warrants in the city, following information received from the public.

PC Pearson said: "We executed two drug warrants, the first in Middleham Avenue in Bell Farm, and the second in Pottery Lane.

"A 36-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, and a number of items were seized which we believe to have been stolen. A quantity of a substance we believe to be heroin or cocaine was also seized."

PC Pearson said he could not confirm the quantity of suspected Class A drugs, but said it was believed to be "enough to support dealing".

The raids happened on Thursday, police said.

York Press:

Officers on patrol also located a car in Fossway which had been stolen in a burglary from a property in Turner Close, Huntington, in the early hours, and returned it to its rightful owner the same day.

Two of North Yorkshire Police's current 'most wanted' individuals were also located and arrested.

All four individuals have since been released on police bail while investigations continue.

The work was part of York Police's "Operation Cocoon," a long-running operation around the north of York.

It was the same operation that was responsible for the recent arrest of a man and a woman, both in their fifties, on suspicion of running a brothel in The Groves area.

Inspector Lee Pointon, neighbourhood policing inspector for York North, urged the public to share any information or concerns with police.

He said: "We will respond to any information provided by the public, so please, if you have a concern or information you think we should know about, phone 101."
