JAKE McCARTHY is finding his form for York RI ‘B’ in the first division of the Time Communications York & District Table Tennis League .

McCarthy’s treble was the highlight of a fine 6-4 victory for his side against Clarence ‘A’.

Leaders Coneysthope ‘A’ thrashed York RI ‘C’ 9-1 with Martin Lowe and James Rule unbeaten whilst Joe Wright chipped in with a maximum as Bootham ‘A’ cruised to an 8-2 triumph over Coneysthorpe ‘B’.

York RI ‘D’ head division two but dropped crucial points as they struggled to a narrow 6-4 victory over York RI ‘F’. Ryan Hood did the damage with three excellent wins.

University ‘A’ have emerged as title favourites after white-washing Shepherds ‘B’ 10-0 to move within six points of the top spot with two games in hand.

A dogged performance from Gareth Bryning proved decisive as Bootham ‘B’ beat Strensall 7-3 for whom Dave Robinson played impressively to beat Jo Suchecki. Richard Ingleby was undefeated as Bootham ‘C’ saw off bottom team York RI ‘G’ 7-3. Railway’s Lewis Harrison secured two notable wins against Richard Harrison and Rachel Greener.

University ‘B’ thrashed an under-strength Wigginton & Haxby ‘A’ 10-0 to retain their leadership of the third division. Gary Bunce has not lost in 2017 and his treble was enough to see Clarence CIU defeat Clarence ‘D’ 7-3 to remain in second place.

Ryedale@RI kept on the pressure as they thumped Clarence ‘E’ 10-0.

Paul Greenwood starred as York RI ‘H’ beat South Bank ‘A’ 7-3 whilst Shepherds ‘B’ and Bootham ‘D’ shared the spoils in a tight 5-5 draw.

BT ‘A’ beat club-mates BT ‘B’ 7-3 but it was Jim Stevenson who caught the eye as he defeated all the ‘A’ team players!

In division four, Clarence ‘F’ lead the table after two crushing victories over York RI ‘J’ (10-0) and Bootham ‘E’ (9-1) with Russ Scott undefeated in both fixtures.

Keith Hood and Trevor D’Arcy Evans were on top form as Clarence ‘G’ defeated University ‘D’ 8-2 and Nigel Baker starred as Shepherds ‘C’ cruised to a 9-1 win over Bootham ‘E’.

Honours were even as University ‘C’ and University ‘D’ shared the points in a 5-5 draw with all players registering at least one success.

Hugill triumph

Melbourne snooker player Ashley Hugill beat Pickering’s Paul Davison yesterday in the first round of the Coral Shoot Out at Watford Colosseum.

The ranking tournament, which is being televised on ITV4, involves 128 players over four days. All matches last a maximum of ten minutes, with a shot clock of 15 seconds for the first five minutes and 10 seconds for the last five. Hugill, 22, beat Davison who is currently ranked 90th in the world, 66-32 in the one frame match.
