MEET the Bruce Springsteen fan from York who’s just seen the star perform for the 101st time- and has a massive tattoo dedicated to The Boss all over his back.

Mark Ryder, 53, has just returned from a trip to Australia and New Zealand where he passed his century of Springsteen concerts with stadium and arena gigs in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

The self-employed plumber, who was not born in the USA but Acomb, and now lives in Dringhouses, told The Press he had followed Springsteen for 32 years since his Born in the USA tour in 1985.

He said he had also spent more than 70 hours in Dan Rooke’s tattoo parlour, Rookstar Tattoo in Hamilton Drive West, to create his full back tattoo of all things Springsteen.

He keeps adding to it and it has now spread half way down his right arm.

Meanwhile, the winner of an unusual raffle which has raised hundreds of pounds for York brain tumour victim Emily Rhodes has now had her message tattooed on a man’s leg.

Tracey Whitley bought a ticket in a raffle organised by Phil Bell and his wife Gill to help raise £5,000 so that Emily, 22, who emigrated to Australia with her family four years ago, can fly back to York to see friends and relatives for one final time.

The message, “Spread a little sparkle wherever you go...For Emily!”was tattooed for free on Phil’s leg by Jon Stewart, at the Tattoo Room in the Tanning Lounge at Huntington.

Gill said the tattoo raffle and a cake raffle raised £852, and family friend David Brooksbank had also raised £540 by raffling off a gold diamond ring.

Karen Waugh and Andy Elcock, who owned Kennedys bar, had also put collection tins out last Friday night and raised £108.

Emily’s mother Joanne said: “The tattoo is lovely; we cried at it.”

She hoped Emily would be able to return to York around May 6-8.
