A NEW year wardrobe clear out has raised more than £700 for charity.

The pop-up clothes sale was held at Appleton-le-Moors Village Hall.

Buyers were asked to donate what they thought the item were worth to one of six charities - Ryedale Special Families. Ryedale Talking Magazine, Heads Together, Martin House Hospice, Marie Curie and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Katrina Mallories, one of the organisers, said: “I just thought people might use it as a new year clear out and the idea seemed to take off. I then asked people to nominate charities and I took the suggestions put forward.

“It was a brilliant day and so far we are have raised £731 with the charities receiving between £90 and £140 from the specific buckets and an equal share of general donations.

“Some of the items left will go on to eBay and those proceeds will be equally split and the other unsold items were shared between local charity shops.”
