A FILM starring former Time Lord David Tennant which was partly shot in York, will close a major film festival this weekend.

The former Doctor Who star leads the cast of Mad To Be Normal as Scottish psychiatrist RD Laing, who created a residential retreat for people suffering with schizophrenia and advocated the use of LSD for medical treatment in the 1960s.

Filming took place above Stone Trough Books in Walmgate last February, and more than 200 students signed up to appear as extras in scenes shot on campus at the University of York.

The film, which also stars Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss, Sir Michael Gambon and Gabriel Byrne, will close the Glasgow Film Festival on Sunday, February 26.

The trailer to the film, which is due to be released later this year, was released earlier this month.
