YORK Indoor Bowls Club proved too strong for Ferryhill in the Mason Trophy as they came from 12-9 down to win 45-26 on aggregate.

York's away rink of Dot Kennelly, Maureen Walker, Helen Walker and Linda Harrison held the lead from start to finish as they comfortably won 19-9.

At home, little went right for Joan Jackson, Carol Banks, Melanie Brooke and Carol Instone as they trailed 12-3 after six ends but then they took control, winning eight of the following nine ends to lead 23-13 en route to a 26-17 victory.

Meanwhile, York were happy to get back to winning ways in the North Eastern League as they beat Harrogate 71-66 - albeit frustrated they had only one winning rink meaning they picked up only four of the ten points at stake.

With three ends to play, victory seemed out of reach as they trailed by 14 shots before making a great comeback.

At home, Judythe Williams, Joan Knight, Maggie Pallister and Pauline Cooper were level at 11-11 with seven ends to play and won all but one to finish 26-12 victors.

Michelle Ellis, Bar Saville, Kath Pepper and Pauline Armitage were 6-3 up after six ends but 14-6 behind with five to play. They went into the last looking for a two to level but dropped a single and lost 16-13.

In Harrogate, Jenny Darrell, Janet McManus, Tina Robinson and Pat Potter also ran out of time as they chased a 19-8 deficit to only go down 19-16.

Ann Donaldson, Eva Snarr, Jean Williams and Sue Kirkpatrick were level at 7-7 after eight ends but dropped nine shots to be left chasing the game. They scored four over the last two ends but likewise ran out of time, finishing 19-16.
