THERE will be an all-York City final in the North Riding County FA Ladies' Cup after the club's second string beat York Railway Institute 4-2 in their semi-final.

City Ladies' first team, the holders and record six times winners of the trophy, had already reached this year's final thanks to their walkover against Stokesley, and the reserves joined them there thanks to braces by prolific strike duo Sophie Tinson and Ellie Randall against RI.

The Minsterbelles had been favourites going into the tie but expected a difficult challenge after their cross-city rivals previously accounted for five-times winners Middlesbrough in the opening round.

That's precisely what they got, having to come from 2-1 down at the interval.

Tinson opened the scoring when netting for the seventh successive game, but York RI soon equalised from a twice-taken penalty after goalkeeper Leigh Bamford had saved the initial effort.

She was then lobbed from distance as the home side went into the break with a narrow advantage.

However, City reserves, who have already displayed their tenacity at turning around deficits this season, fought back superbly.

Attacking midfielder Randall equalised with 20 minutes left before Tinson put them back ahead. Randall wrapped things up late on.

Player-manager Kira Robinson paid tribute to her cup fighters.

"I'm so proud of all the girls - they gave everything they had to get us to the final," she said. "RI fought to the end and did themselves really proud.

"Sophie and Ellie have been amazing all season and it was no surprise they popped up with the goals when we really needed them.

"I can't fault any of them though. The back four were solid and didn't deserve to go 2-1 down. Vicki (Robinson) and Georgia (Marsden) slowly started to dictate things and got the wingers going to provide the chances we needed.

"We're all very excited and looking forward to our first County Cup final now."
