ENTRIES are open for the 2017 Selby Town Hall Battle Of The Bands.

The event, now in its 13th year, is open to all acts and artists from the Selby area aged 19 and under, with no restrictions on musical style, and no auditions or demo submissions are necessary.

The competition comprises two heats and a final throughout May and June, and has space for up to ten acts with the winner receiving a day’s recording and single launch, as well as performing a paid opening slot at this year’s Family Fun Day outdoor concert.

Former winner Jack Lawrenson made his live television debut on the BBC’s flagship music programme Later…with Jools Holland, playing as part of a duo with hotly tipped electro R&B singer Jones.

York Press:

Jack said: “As a professional musician, some of the most important lessons that I learned and still refer to today were from playing at the Town Hall Battle of the Bands.

“The chance to play your first live show in such a professional and supportive environment gives you the opportunity to take your musical ambitions to the next level.”

Last year’s winners Pura Vida have already secured national radio play on BBC 6 Music and will next month headline their biggest show to date in York, supported by the previous three Battle of the Bands champions.

Chris Jones, Selby Town Council arts officer, said: “Battle of the Bands has become something of an institution in Selby.

“It’s a fantastic platform for young bands, giving them a chance to perform to an audience of peers in their home town.

“If you’ve ever wanted to form a band but were worried about making that first step, this is your chance.” For more information and the online entry form, go to townhallgigs.co.uk before March 31.
