In the 1990s, the then Yorkshire Evening Press produced a VHS called 50 Years of York, a compilation of readers' old cinefilm footage of York.
The tape has now been digitised, and over the next week we will be uploading extracts here.
The first extract is shown above, and includes footage from the railway station, the Bar Walls, York Minster, Shambles, the area around Bootham Bar, and more.
For thousands of old photographs of York, see our history section.
