EAST Riding council is about to launch its masterplan for hundreds of new home on the edge of Bridlington.

Two pieces of land north of the town are earmarked for development in the Local Plan, and together they could contain as many as 1,500 new homes.

Because the sites are so big East Riding of Yorkshire Council has to draw up a masterplan to make sure the building is not “piecemeal and uncoordinated”.

The plan will set out the need for new infrastructure, particularly roads and public open space, will specify the mix of housing types needed, and will set out a broad form, layout, and design of the new development.

Next week the council’s cabinet will be asked to approve a draft of the masterplan, and the document will then be published for a six week public consultation before it is finalised.

York Press:

At the same meeting, cabinet members will hear about a new Strategic Housing Needs Assessment (SHMA) for the area.

The document, which has been drawn up by planning officials, looks into housing need for the area. It says that while the overall need sits at between 830 and 1,459 new homes a year - meaning the Local Plan which provides for 1,400 new homes a year until 2029 is valid, there is still a significant need for affordable housing and specialist housing for older people to cope with a rapidly ageing population.
