A REPORT on parking in East Yorkshire has revealed that the council brought in more than £3.2 million from parking last year, and made a profit of £152,000.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council's annual parking report for 2015-16 says the total income generated from pay and display meters was £2.321 million, with 71 per cent of this from off-street car parks.

Including income generated from permits and parking charge notices the total income was £3.224 million.

The report, which will go before East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s cabinet next Tuesday, also says the total money spent on managing and maintaining the car parks, along with the operating costs of managing the controlled parking zones and civil parking enforcement was £3.072 million.

As a result, the council made a profit of £152,000. “The surplus has been used on specific schemes for maintenance and improvements to the highway,” the report said.

The council operates 63 off-street car parks within the East Riding along with a large number of on-street parking facilities.
