PUPPET nudity comes to York tonight when gutsy puppet Fred takes to the Theatre Royal Studio stage in Meet Fred at 7.45pm.

Presented by Cardiff company Hijinx in association with London company Blind Summit, this devised show is a snapshot of the life of a potty-mouthed puppet with a feisty but loveable personality who fights prejudice every day.

Expect not only the aforementioned puppetry in the buff but strong language too in the story of Fred, a two-foot tall cloth puppet who just wants to be part of the real world: get a job, meet a girl and settle down.

Meet Fred takes a timely look at what it is to be disadvantaged in today’s society. Tracking the progress of an outsider who tries to make his mark in a world wherein he needs plenty of help, the show shines a light on how tasks such as going on a date or finding a job present myriad problems.

Incisively and humorously, Meet Fred exposes the ridiculous situations some of the most vulnerable in our society encounter when their support is taken from them, exploding the myth that “we are all in this together”.

From their Cardiff base, Hijinx create touring shows with casts that always include actors with and without learning disabilities. Meet Fred's company includes two actors with Asperger's and one with Downs’s Syndrome, working as equals alongside four actors without learning disabilities.
