FIREFIGHTERS tackled a rubbish fire in a village near Selby, which is believed to have been started deliberately.

A crew was called to woodland in Brotherton shortly before 3.30pm on Monday where there was a fire involving about 10 old tyres. They put out the flames using one hose reel. A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “The cause is believed to be deliberate.” Meanwhile, firefighters dealt with a kitchen fire at a commercial property in Main Street, Bishopthorpe. Crews were called to the fire at about 4.45pm on Monday, but it was out on arrival. It is believed to have been caused by cooking left unattended.
