A DRINK of beer in Tadcaster will cost a mother and a father more than £200, York magistrates decided.
Jennifer Crooks, 29, and Robert Mark Kingdon, 30, stole the alcohol and a packet of Tic Tacs from the Esso garage on Leeds Road on November 16, said Martin Butterworth, prosecuting.
By the time police caught up with the couple, they had consumed both items which were worth together £7.01.
Kingdon, of Church Street, Skipton, and Crooks, of Spenser Road, Guiseley near Leeds, both admitted theft.
Both were given a 12-month conditional discharge, and each was ordered to pay £3.51 compensation, plus a £20 statutory surcharge and £85 prosecution costs.
For the couple, Steve Munro said they had two children. “They are not setting their children a very good example, being in court today.”
They had been in drink when they committed the offence.
