TWO men have been injured in an incident in York's Stonebow.

A 49-year-old man was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with an injury to his head and a 28-year-old man was taken to York Hospital with injuries to his face, said North Yorkshire Police.

The pavement was taped off by police last night, but the cordon had been removed by this morning.

The cordon affected an area of pavement just across the road from Stonebow House and near the beer garden of The Terrace pub but landlord Paul Gardner said the incident had 'absolutely no connection' with the pub.

A force spokeswoman said officers were called at 5.30pm yesterday to reports of an assault on a man in Stonebow.

"Anyone who was in the area and witnessed the incident or anyone with information which could assist the investigation is asked to contact police on 101," she said.
