A GASTROPUB in North Yorkshire has twice been honoured nationally for its fine fare this week.

The Star Inn in Harome, which is run by chef-patron Andrew Pern, is featured in The Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants supplement, which is published this weekend.

The list comes in the same week the Michelin-starred Star Inn was also named the best gastropub in the country at this year’s Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs Awards.

Its star dishes include deer saddle glazed with treacle, with sweet potato and Morello cherries.

The Black Swan in Oldstead, with chef Tommy Banks, which only uses produce from the village and its own vegetable garden, is also included in The Sunday Times top 100.

Also featured is The Magpie Café in Whitby, whose freshly-caught fish and twice-fried beef dripping chips are described as “the best fish and chips in the world”.

The Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants which does not rank the establishments was compiled by a judging panel including Jamie Oliver, Antonio Carluccio and Nick Jones, who is the founder of Soho House.
