A TEAM of children held a pop-up cafe in memory of a York police officer and raised more than £1,200.

PC Suzanne Asquith lost her battle with cancer just after Christmas, and was a driving force behind North Yorkshire Police's Lifestyle competition, which encouraged children and young people to help their communities during school holidays.

Millthorpe School pupils Aidan Robertson, his brother Ethan, twins Jimmy and Lellie Dalgleish and Luke Smith, all 11, took part in the challenge as Team Lifestyle Cafe two years ago, and have 'popped up' numerous times since then to help raise money for York Flood victims, Jorvik Viking Centre and Max's Mission.

On Saturday and Sunday, they hosted their pop up cafe in Knavesmire Crescent to help raise money in memory of PC Asquith, with her family, colleagues and the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress among those who attended.

Jo Dalgleish, mother of Jimmy and Lellie, said the community came together in PC Asquith's memory, donating baking goods and food to support the cafe.

Jo said: "It's been an absolutely fantastic weekend, we're really pleased with raising so much and want to thank everybody who helps and supported us.

"The whole point of Lifestyle was to do something for the community and we just feel that it started with Suzanne but it continued as part of her legacy and has gone way beyond the Lifestyle Challenge and we keep doing it the kids want to keep doing it and work really hard towards it."

Funds will be split between Cancer Research UK and Equine Pathways UK.
