THE most significant Viking treasure hoards ever discovered in Britain will be put on display together for the first time in York.

In May, some of the most internationally significant Anglo-Saxon and Viking discoveries will be shown at the Yorkshire Museum as part of the Viking: Rediscover the Legend exhibition, which looks at how the Vikings transformed life in Britain.

Objects from the British Museum will feature alongside the Yorkshire Museum’s own collections, including the Vale of York Viking Hoard, the Bedale Hoard and the Cuerdale Hoard, the largest Viking Hoard ever found outside of Russia, alongside new research by archaeologists and discoveries by metal-detectorists and the Anglo-Saxon Ormside bowl.

Natalie Buy, curator of archaeology at the Yorkshire Museum, said: “This is a unique opportunity to see some of the best Viking treasures in the UK.”

The exhibition will open at the Yorkshire Museum from May 19 – November 5 and then go on tour elsewhere in the country.
