YORKSHIRE Water says research has revealed that only a quarter of people in the region drink enough water.

Now the company has launched a new campaign to encourage residents to drink more tapwater, including a video declaring Yorkshire to be the ‘best place on earth,’ which has already been viewed more than 345,000 times.

A spokesman said the European Food Safety Authority calculated women should drink 1.6 litres of fluid per day and men two litres to maintain a healthy body and mind, equating to 6 – 8 glasses per day. But the survey of 1,000 people in Yorkshire showed more than 40 per cent typically drank less than two glasses.

Susan Gee, occupational health and wellbeing manager, said: “We are urging people to make a late New Year’s resolution to consume more tap water, which will help keep their energy levels up.”
