A HOUSE in a North Yorkshire village has been burgled and a number of items stolen, including porcelain pieces.

The burglary happened at a house in Doncaster Road, Whitley, near Selby.

It took place at about 1pm on December 30.

North Yorkshire Police said an unknown offender broke in through the back door and made off with Royal Crown Derby porcelain pieces and other items.

A spokesperson for the force said: "It is believed that the items were carried away in a crimson velvet curtain, taken from a pole in the house.

"Officers would like to speak to anyone who has information about the burglary, or has been offered items for sale in suspicious circumstances.

"They would also like to hear from anyone who saw a maroon Isuzu Trooper pick-up truck in the area around the time of the incident."
