A RAPE investigation in York has been closed by North Yorkshire Police.

The investigation was launched by police after a woman in her late thirties reported a rape in the early hours of Thursday, August 11.

In October, police released CCTV images of two women who they believed may have spoken to the male suspect.

A 26-year-old man was arrested in connection with the investigation, but a police spokesman said he had been released from bail with no further action to be taken.

The spokesman said on Monday that following advice from the Crown Prosecution Service, police were no longer actively investigating the incident.
