YORK company Off The Rock Productions will hold auditions for Benjamin Peel's Not A Game For Girls at Krumbs Kitchen, Tanner Row, York, on February 15 at 7pm and February 16 at 10pm.

In 1917, Dick, Kerr’s Ladies Football Club was formed. Attracting crowds of up to 60,000, they were so popular that the Football Association tried to ban them. "One hundred years later it is time their story was told," says Off The Rocks producer Matthew Wignall.

"If you would like to book an audition, are interested in joining the crew or have any questions, please contact me at mwignall79@hotmail.com," he adds. "You do not have to prepare anything; extracts from the play will be provided at the audition. Please note, all roles are unpaid."

Not A Game For Girls will be performed from June 15 to 18 at Friargate Theatre, Friargate, York. Off The Rock are looking for "actors of all ages (18 plus) and genders to play such roles as Florrie Kell, captain and centre forward, who retrains as a nurse and leaves for Canada; Lily Parr, moody, sullen and lesbian outside left; Alice Woods, prim and proper centre half; Jessie Jones, defender and funtime girl; Betty Williams, goalkeeper with a drunkard, shellshocked husband, and Madelaine Ourry, confident, sassy and elegant French player.

Among the men are no-nonsense team manager Alfred Frankland; ex-professional player turned coach Jack Holmes and Frankland's assistant, Herbert Stanley.
