I READ the article “House price rise will cover rail fare increase” (The Press, January 9) and thought I had missed a few months of my life and we had instantly reached April Fools Day.

The Press reported that Zoopla, a property website, stated that several areas of the UK, where house prices were increasing by between £85 and £256 a day, would cover the increase in rail fares.

I really cannot see how a property owner can carry a few bricks from their house down to the rail company’s ticket office (if you can still find a ticket office) to buy a rail ticket or a season ticket using the bricks as payment.

Surely taking a few bricks away from the building every day or month would certainly reduced the value of the property until it is sold and cannot be released to pay for a rail ticket.

Where do they get their ideas from?
