RESIDENTS have been urged to remain vigilant after a break in at a house in Selby.

Thieves cut the power to a security light at the back of the house in Leeds Road, near Meadway, at about 8.35pm on Monday, January 9.

After cutting the power to the light, the thieves smashed a glass panel on the back door to try and gain entry, then removed the lock from the conservatory to get into the house.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said the homeowner was alerted to the break in by the sound of smashing glass, and the offenders left the property.

The spokesman said: “A male was seen in the area wearing a Parka style coat with a hood. We are appealing for any person with any information regarding this incident to contact us.

“Also, anyone with external CCTV on Leeds Rd or in the vicinity of Meadway... should contact us.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
