THREE people have been taken to hospital after a crash involving five vehicles on the A1079.

The collision happened near Wilberfoss at about 1.30pm today.

The air ambulance, along with three road ambulances and two rapid response vehicles were sent to the scene.

Police closed the road while emergency services dealt with the incident, but it has now reopened.

A spokeswoman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: "Three patients have been conveyed to York Hospital by land ambulance. The air ambulance did attend for assistance but didn't transport anyone."

The spokeswoman could not say how serious their injuries were.
